About this edition: This electronic book edition of The Vote is published by the University of Chicago Press. The essays in this electronic book edition are in draft form, that is, there may be occasional typos and citations not yet filled in, and authors are still free to revise their pieces. Nine of the eleven essays in The Vote appeared in final form in the Summer 2001 issue of the University of Chicago Law Review. The Vote appeared as a printed book in October 2001. The essays by Elizabeth Garrett and Pamela S. Karlan, as well as the Introduction and Afterword, are unique to the electronic and print editions The Vote.
